Photo of Hugging Dogs Goes Viral, Finds Them Foster Home

The two pooches were captured on camera sharing a touching moment at the Bartow County Animal Shelter in Cartersville, Ga.

A touching photo snapped by an adoption coordinator of two dogs hugging at a Georgia animal shelter has gone viral -- and resulted in a temporary home for the two pooches.

Malena Evans, who works with the Etowah Valley Humane Society, snapped the photo last week of two dogs who were at Bartow County Animal Control’s shelter.

The organization serves as an adoption arm for the animal shelter, which is based in Cartersville, Ga.

The two dogs, one of which appears to be a Boxer mix and the other a hound mix, did not enter the shelter at the same time, but ended up in the same kennel, Evans stated.

“It’s a beautiful photo,” Evans told Patch. ”It’s a wonderful photo. They are both great dogs. They were being really silly that day and they were just happy.”

The photo caught the attention of Angels Among Us, a metro Atlanta-based animal rescue organization. The group shared the photo on its Facebook page and was able to find a foster home for the dogs, named Kala and Keira.

The photo has been shared over 11,000 times and the Facebook post made by Angels Among Us has garnered over 22,000 likes. Additionally, over 3,000 comments have been made on the post from residents.

Both dogs are currently in need of a forever home. Anyone who is interested in adopting one -- or both -- can visit the Angels Among Us website.

Evans added that while she did not expect the photo to receive so much attention, she’s glad the loving moment has sparked a conversation about the state of pet adoptions in north Georgia.

“i’m glad it’s shining the light on rescue and the need to find homes for animals.”
